Carotene, chlorophyll a,
chlorophyll b, and xanthophyll were soluble in acetone. If the distance covered
by a pigment is zero, that pigment is insoluble in that solvent. In this case,
all the pigments mentioned above moved thus were soluble in the solvent (acetone).
