  1. Make a list of at least three (3) of your strongly held beliefs. What are those beliefs based on? List some facts, respected authorities, or other evidence that support them.
  2. Define and describe three (3) differences in intercultural communication between high- and low-context cultures. Provide at least one real-world, original example from your own life experience of each type of culture for illustration.
  3. Consider your own culture. What is your culture's orientation to each of the five (5) Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck's value orientations? Write a paragraph in which you describe how you personally view each of these.
  4. Briefly discuss why it is important to be familiar with the differences in value orientations. In other words, how can this knowledge help you to become a more effective communicator in a cross-cultural context? Provide a few examples from your own life experience for illustration.
  5. Explain the difference between Hall's concept of monochronic and polychronic time. Identity three (3) ways in which you have seen each of these reflected in your culture. How might differences in time orientation impact communication in an intercultural context?
